Humaira Hamid

A furtive connector with an insatiable curiosity about the human condition, Humaira is an educator, speaker, facilitator, and mentor (academic, industry-based, and popular education) rooted in values of accountability, inclusion, and play.

In the past five years, Humaira has supported 600+ cross-sector young start-ups and SMEs successfully launch and grow in British Columbia. The free-to-access, early-stage workshop program Humaira co-created in 2015 at Futurpreneur Canada has helped more than 1020 aspiring entrepreneurs (and counting) translate their ideas into effective business plans, now across BC, Alberta, Ontario, Quebec, and Atlantic Canada (www.rockmybusinessplan.ca). Her initiatives to bridge the gap for underserved entrepreneurs in curious ways led BC to be the highest-participating province in Futurpreneur’s innovative Side Hustle program, the first of its kind to help part-time businesses with financing and mentorship.

Humaira partners with folks like Chris Guillebeau (Side Hustle School), Techstars Startup Weekend Vancouver, Etsy Vancouver, The Urban Worker Project, Fall For Local, and GCUC Canada to serve solopreneurs, freelancers, and side-hustlers. As a speaker, facilitator, and emcee, she speaks through an intersectional lens to topics including the gig economy; the future of work; equity and inclusion in entrepreneurship; ethical young social enterprise.

As a college instructor, communications coach, and certified yoga teacher, Humaira knows a thing or two about the Side Hustle life. Humaira has put her academic (UBC, B.SC. Biology + Psychology) and experience design background to work for dozens of local, national, and international mission-driven organizations (e.g. imagine1day, TEDxVancouver, and Arts Umbrella). She currently serves as Board Chair at Check Your Head, hosts curious conversations exploring minimalism (#YVRmins) and death & dying (#CConDD), and has yet to meet a dog she doesn’t get along with. All with zero coffee.
